Description / Position Overview

Social Media Specialist - Pikes Peak - America's Mountain (Public Communications Specialist)

Pikes Peak - America's Mountain is the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountain in the United States (14,115 feet). This international attraction and national historical landmark attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year and has a newly constructed visitor center at the peak of the summit. In this position, you will manage the overall social media presence for Pikes Peak - America's Mountain (PPAM). 


Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform: 

  • Work with the PPAM leadership team to develop, implement and manage annual social media strategy and media purchase budget
  • Develop monthly content calendars and recommend campaign strategies
  • Create and manage social media content that encourages and increases engagement
  • Define the most important social media KPIs
  • Measure and report on the success of social media campaigns
  • Monitor SEO and user engagement and suggest content optimization
  • Assist Supervisor with Pikes Peak Summit App and interpretive wall management
  • Stay up to date with social media industry trends, best practices, and technologies
  • Utilize various online analytical tools to measure post-performance.  
  • Coordinate with PPAM team members and leadership to strategize for the enhancement of social media participation
  • Lead PPAM marketing strategy committee meetings, plans, and efforts 
  • Identify opportunities to influence public perception through audience engagement and publicly speaking about the brand’s social media strategy
  • Identify business interest in potential media buy sales opportunities within PPAM digital and print media platforms
  • Assist supervisor in the development and updating of brand strategy and marketing policy and procedures
  • Collaborate with partner agencies including Visit COS, Pikes Peak Attractions, social media influencers, etc. to bolster network interaction

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
 

Knowledge of: 
  • Standard and emerging social media platforms
  • Social media marketing strategies and best practices
  • Digital marketing and advertising including blogging, email, and display
  • Best practices for analyzing social media data, SEO, and other metrics
  • Tourism industry trends and influencers
Ability to:
  • Process information quickly and effectively
  • Exhibit excellent written/verbal communication skills; exemplary spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and strong proofreading/editing skills 
  • Present analytical data to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Organize, prioritize, and successfully implement multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Stay current on new trends and innovations in social media marketing

Successful candidates will have

  •  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in marketing, public relations, communications, internet marketing, or a related field and years of experience.  
  • One year of full-time professional social media and/or marketing experience.
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
 
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements 

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Experience working with social media platforms including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok
  • Experience with social media ad placement and purchasing
  • Experience in tracking SEO analytics
  • Experience working in the tourism industry
  • Experience using video editing software like Final Cut and/or Premiere
  • Experience using photo editing software like Photoshop and/or InDesign

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.

This position is located in Cascade, CO. Employees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the workplace.

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 20 occasionally and stoop and bend frequently. The ability to sit, stand, run, or walk for prolonged periods is also required.
