Description / Position Overview


PT Parking Enforcement Officer
In this position, you will perform a wide variety of duties and activities to enforce the City's parking ordinances.

This is a year-round hourly (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).

Normal work hours will vary based on the needs of the department. Total work hours will not exceed 29 hours per week and 1500 hours per year. Weekend work will be required.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Issue citations; provide information to citizens and guests; initiate impoundment of vehicles in the City's lots and on-street locations
  • Respond to citizen complaints of abandoned or illegally parked vehicles
  • Provide assistance to the Police Department at accident scenes and special events
  • Apply the "boot" to the vehicles of habitual parking ordinance offenders
  • Interpret, explain, and enforce City policies and procedures and parking ordinances
  • Properly maintain assigned vehicle and equipment

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate

Knowledge of:
  • Colorado Springs and surrounding areas geography
  • Microsoft Office, Auto Cite, and other hand-held enforcement devices

Ability to:
  • Make decisions regarding the interpretation of policies
  • Negotiate sensitive issues with a high level of tact
  • Maintain effective working relationships
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing

Successful candidates will have

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Posses, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver’s license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Experience working in parking enforcement 

Additional Information

The background check for this position includes a polygraph examination and fingerprinting.

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
 
Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a regular basis and walk for extended periods.
