Description / Position Overview

Recovery Navigator I

In this (special at-will) grant-funded position, you will play a critical role in the CPH (Community and Public Health) division of the CSFD (Colorado Springs Fire Department) by providing support for our new TAP (Transitional Assistance Program). In this unique role, you will be responsible for providing navigation and recovery support to individuals exiting the Criminal Justice Center and re-entering our community.

This is a grant funded position with funding through May 2023 and the possibility of extension.

Essential Job Functions – the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform: 
  • Conduct intensive case management for members on a daily basis 
  • Complete intakes/assessments for those individuals referred to the program 
  • Coordinate care for members as the need arises in their treatment 
  • Implement behavioral modification/solution focused treatment for issues that are hindering improvement 
  • Conduct education specific to the client’s reported diagnoses and symptomology 
  • Create intervention planning/goal setting for each member on caseload 
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and bi-monthly case reviews
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
 
 Knowledge of:
  • Appropriate scope of practice expectations
  • Substance abuse and polypharmacy concerns/treatments
  • Goal setting and treatment planning
Ability to:
  • Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Assess safety concerns and utilize verbal de-escalation skills
  • Demonstrate crisis management skills
  • Formulate cohesive intervention plans
  • Recognize when to seek additional supervision/consultation
  • Identify any ethical concerns that might arise and discuss with supervisor
  • Represent CSFD in a professional capacity
  • Accept constructive criticism and demonstrate a willingness to learn
  • Navigate electronic medical records independently after training
  • Set clear and firm boundaries with clients
  • Function in a complex and fluid work environment
  • Communicate professionally, effectively, and efficiently with all stakeholders

Successful candidates will have

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • One year of full-time experience working with individuals in a recovery setting
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges 
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Crisis intervention skills

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
 
Physical Demands: The ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally, and/or walking or standing to a significant degree is required
