Job Description
Job Title: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer/Ultrasound

Description:
Performs a variety of ultrasound procedures including, but not limited to, abdominal, pelvic, OB, head, extremity, retroperitoneal, small parts, and vascular.
May perform cardiac procedures as required.
Practices all rules and regulations pertaining to radiation safety, reducing personal and patient exposure to as low as reasonably achievable.
Produces quality images in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.
Prepares patients for exams.
Provides information and instruction to patients and/or families regarding the procedure.
Responds to patients' physical and emotional needs.
Assists patients during the exam and positions them accordingly.
Observes patients and equipment during the procedure.
Reports and documents unusual occurrences.
Records patients' conditions.
Facilitates smooth patient flow, scheduling, and optimal use of resources.
Communicates in writing and verbally with all physicians, imaging personnel, students, and staff in facilitating the continuum of care.
Assists with patient transport as needed.
Performs IV starts and contrast administration as required.
As assigned by management, performs duties of other registered modalities.
Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours as needed.
Correctly inputs charges and required data for procedures and supplies utilized during each exam.
Completes required medical imaging paperwork for each exam performed.
Prepares room, equipment, and exam materials needed for procedures.
Maintains technical operation of equipment and notifies service when necessary.
Notifies supervisor of equipment problems and logs service calls per department procedures.
Maintains a clean work area for employees and patients.
Maintains quality checks and equipment maintenance documentation.
Proactive in problem identification and following up with appropriate management personnel.
Establishes a motivating, constructive rapport with physicians and staff.
Maintains a high skill level through ongoing education and shares information with staff.
Participates in clinical training for students and/or staff technologists.
Engages in professional activities through involvement in organizations and continuing education.
Represents the mission, vision, and values of the organization through volunteer activities that enhance the image of the profession.
Actively participates in department and hospital quality and process improvement initiatives.
Maintains compliance with all regulations and standards.
Responsible for contributing to accreditation as requested.
