Job Description
In this position, you will be responsible for leading a team supporting a multimillion-dollar Information Technology (IT) Program/System comprised of Transit-specific software applications, mobile technology platforms, physical (on-site), and virtual servers tied to the City’s Information Technology system.

This is a special at-will position funded by an FTA grant received by Transit annually.
 
Essential Job Functions- the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Provide assistance to the Operations Administrator and Division Manager for the Transit IT program
  • Participate in developing Division goals, priorities, and policies
  • Lead and supervise the Transit IT team to provide secure and reliable IT services
  • Increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the team through daily functional improvements, increased coordination, and communication with City IT Department, customers, and outside IT teams
  • Oversee troubleshooting of issues; provide timely resolutions to business customers for supported platforms
  • Manage technology vendors that are providing services and products within the Transit area of responsibility; identify and address performance issues with vendors
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations; set policies and procedures to ensure activities are carried out by sound practices and with proper internal controls
  • Research, conduct studies, and stay informed of industry trends and innovations; provide recommendations for improvements or planning purposes; and participate in developing division goals, priorities, and policies
  • Select, train, direct, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff; provide and/or coordinate staff training; and work with employees to correct deficiencies
  • Coordinate with City IT to ensure all IT requirements are met.
 
Job Requirements
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Excellent supervisory skills needed to manage and direct operational services
Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Knowledge of principles and practices of various transit systems
Ability to stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices
Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple projects
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Independent and analytical judgment and decision-making skills are necessary to apply technical skills effectively.

The successful candidate will have:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, information technology management, or a related field. Significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Five years of full-time professional experience in public transportation planning, transit programs, or a related field, including three years of supervisory experience
Ideal candidates will also have
Five years of full-time experience with an IT organization
Experience as a project manager implementing multi-million dollar technology projects
Experience which demonstrates advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems which affect the design and implementation of major programs and or processes
Experience which demonstrates the ability to write effective scopes of work for information technology services and applications
Additional Information
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with some travel from site to site and possible exposure to inclement weather conditions.
