Job Description

Position Summary:

  • Performs skilled maintenance, repair, adjustment, and minor construction work in the trades to ensure that facilities are properly maintained and meet College standards. Duties may fall into a variety of trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, energy management, fire and life safety and keys/security systems.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

  • Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair.

  • Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.

  • Plans repair work using buildings blueprints or equipment manual as needed.

  • Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.

  • Performs routine maintenance on building systems.

  • Maintain functionality of plumbing systems

  • Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.

  • Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Performance Competencies:

  • Education / Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Required Knowledge:

  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMPs) and major trades, such as carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, is required.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Experience Required:

  • 6 months to 3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or repairs within a commercial or industrial environment.

  • Two years of education or training, or an associate degree, in the facilities maintenance trades, are preferred but not required.

  • Skills / Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic and other systems.

  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices.

  • Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills.

  • Read, comprehend, and work from plans and operating instructions.

  • Ability to use basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and custodial hand and electric powered tools.

  • Demonstrated time management skills and including multi-tasking.

  • Keep computerized records and prepare reports.

  • Access and employ job related computer software (email, work planning, time-keeping) at an effective proficiency level.

  • Interacts with various levels of staff, guests and vendors.

  • Average, ordinary, visual activity necessary to inspect, prepare documents and products or operate machinery.
  • Physical Strength:

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds
  • Working Conditions:

  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.
