Job Purpose: The Controller is a highly motivated and detail-oriented financial professional that oversees the organization's accounting and financial activities. This role may also include managing other administrative functions to ensure smooth operations across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments. The Controller must be comfortable with maintaining unwavering support for the Dr. Dobson’s ministry work of more than 45 years, fully aligning with the ministry’s mission, statement of faith, and distinctives - https://www.drjamesdobson.org/our-mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting and Financial Management:

  • Manage full accounting and General Ledger processes including direct management of Quickbooks and other software applications.
  • Analyze accounting records and financial statements to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Prepare non-profit financial statements including SOFP, SOA, and Statements of Cash Flows.
  • Manage the annual audit process and support the completion of the organization's annual 990.
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll, invoices, and payments in a timely and accurate manner.

Administrative Management:

  • Supervise and manage administrative staff and activities to ensure efficient office operations.
  • Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the President.

Character/Spiritual Qualifications:

  • Consistent witness for biblical values as espoused in JDFI’s mission, statement of faith, lifestyle statement, and distinctives while maintaining a courteous, professional attitude in all interactions.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and FASB regulations.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks required
  • Flexibility to respond to changing work assignments quickly and accurately.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office environment with standard office equipment.
  • Ability to lift files, open file cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
  • Ability to sit for long periods.

FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt
