The Colorado Springs Police Department seeks a Business Support Specialist I to perform various data entry and other clerical duties, as well as provide general information and assistance to the public.
Work Schedule:
You must be able to work varied hours and days, including weekends. This position is shift work; you can be assigned to any shift.

As a Business Support Specialist I, you will:
- Merge reports into the Law Enforcement Record Management System
- Enter and retrieve data in various systems and databases
- Perform quality checks on received entered or received data
- Process and release records requested by the public, media, attorneys, etc.
- Receive phone requests for information and services from the public and other agencies; screen for a specific need, and directly provide response or re-direct to appropriate person/section
- Assist in monthly Federal Incident Based Reporting (IBR) report corrections
- Assist in CCIC/NCIC desk operations as related to the processing of pick-ups, cancellations, and confirmations
- Processing sex offender registration forms through the States COSAR (Colorado Sexual Assault Registry) database
- Provide customer service to Police Department customers, typically in a dynamic environment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and supporting software
- Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, as well as be able to de-escalate customers and situations as necessary
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment
- Knowledge of basic computer skills and the extensive use of a computer keyboard.
Minimum Qualifications
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
- This is an entry level position and prior experience is not required.
Education and Experience Equivalency: One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized training in data entry, clerical practices, accounting, typing, or other related fields
- Experience in a law enforcement agency
- Experience that demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe PDF Pro
- Experience working with and interpreting legal files and forms
